Our Story

With 86,400 seconds in a day and 31,536,000 seconds in a year, we believe in the power of photography to capture special moments in time. A single second frozen in a photograph can last forever. As Sy Parish said in the film “One Hour Photograph,” when that shutter clicks and the flash goes off, you’ve stopped time, if only for an instant. We believe that anyone can harness this magical ability, and we’re here to help you do just that.

Our story began in September 2017 when Lorenzo started The Black and White Box in a garage with drop-off points around Auckland City. We started with a Noritsu V30 Colour processor and a Fuji Frontier SP3000 scanner. However, due to the growing demand from passionate photographers and our commitment to quality, we expanded to a small warehouse in Ellerslie. After two successful years, in 2020, we moved again, this time to a larger location closer to the vibrant heart of Auckland City, at 127B Newton Road. Here, we continue to operate as a dedicated full-service photo lab.

Over the six years we’ve been in business, we’ve assembled a friendly and knowledgeable team of photography enthusiasts. Most of us have been here from the start. Together, we’re dedicated to providing the highest-quality photographic services at affordable prices. We’ve also created an environment that encourages inspiration and conversations about the art of film photography.

Whether you’re looking for film, fine art printing, framing, expanding your photography skills or a gift for a photography-loving friend, we’re here to help.

We look forward to welcoming you soon!
